What is a Swim Spa?

When you own a swim spa, you get a backyard swimming pool and a hot tub. Unlike traditional pools, which are expensive and take up a lot of space, swim spas are compact options for swimming, relaxation and fitness activities with no “off season.”

What is a Swim Spa?

A swim spa is a swimming pool alternative that combines a pool for swimming and water exercise with the hydrotherapy benefits of a hot tub; it’s basically a combination of a pool and a hot tub in one! At a fraction of the cost of an in-ground pool, a swim spa can be installed in less than a day and is intended for year-round use.

Swim spas are also much more compact in size than swimming pools because they feature a jet or propulsion system that creates a current of water in the pool. This adjustable current can be used for swimming in place or for various exercises like walking, jogging or exercising. The natural buoyancy and resistance of water offers a low-impact environment that is ideal for exercise.

In addition to swimming and aqua exercise, swim spas also feature a hot tub environment with adjustable massage jets, and an adjustable temperature depending on the activity you’re doing. Hot tubs are known for their ability to soothe sore muscles, create relaxation, better sleep, etc. With a swim spa you get the benefits of a pool and a tub all in one beautifully designed package.

How Does a Swim Spa Work?

A swim spa has a built-in current system that allows you to swim on the spot continuously. You’ll never “hit the wall” or have to turn around to continue to swim laps like in a regular pool. They work by using either standard jet pumps or propellers to push a consistent current towards the swimmer. Swim spas work similar to hot tubs where water flows through filtration and suction inlets and then back out through the swim jet system.

We offer Endless Pools Fitness Systems which marries the best in spa and swim-in-place technology in one compact unit. The Fitness Systems option offers 52 speeds catering to a wide range of abilities and these models can also be fitted with an underwater treadmill. This unit is powered by a hydraulic motor that is smooth and quiet.

SwimCross Systems is another Endless Pools option that offers a number of different speeds. The X range has an airless water stream which creates a smoother stream of water and a river jet built in to help keep the swimmer in line and buoyant. The RecSport Systems is a family favorite and the R series has a more basic swim arrangement but still features lots of options.
